Stilllife art community is delighted to introduce StillShop, a lifestyle collective producing pop-up markets and curated collections, connecting East Asian brands to the artistic, trendy NYC community. StillShop is a natural evolution from Stilllife’s goal to democratize the art world and offer our loyal target international community a refreshing way to engage with art in everyday life. Stilllife will continue organizing pop-up art shows which will creatively feed into StillShop’s efforts in exploring art x culture collaborations.
Debuting within the StillShop Market is the inaugural StillShop Collection. The StillShop Collections are themed drops announced periodically throughout the year. Taking inspiration from Stilllife’s pop up art shows, StillShop’s team will curate a selection of Chinese or East Asian art-inspired brands under one theme, thereby telling a creative story of the brands. With each collection drop, StillShop aims to collaborate with key New York City communities and organizations, developing a cult following based on intimate, community based in-person activations. The collections will be available for purchase at collaborating locations and digitally on StillShop’s instagram for a limited amount of time.
Dropping on August 10th during the StillShop Market, StillShop's inaugural collection, "Cabinet of Curiosities," draws inspiration from the rich historical tradition of these eclectic displays that seamlessly integrate natural history, art, science, and culture. Our Cabinet’s eight diverse Chinese brands YRGD, the coming®, LELALES, SoftServe, 1ER, herherlin, Tagi., and THEYKNOW are bonded together by being founded by global Chinese citizens, an emphasis on curiosity sparked by materiality, the artistry of distinctive craftsmanship, and the rituals of slow-living. Just like the historical Cabinet of Curiosities that laid the foundation for systematic collection and curatorial practices, StillShop’s Cabinet of Curiosities represents StillShop’s observation of society’s current yearning for meticulously-made objects with unique stories in contrast with the mass produced, one-dimensional commercial objects.
StillShop Collection’s eight Chinese brands will be showcasing their specially crafted objects and personal stories for the first time in New York City. YRGD, the elegant fragrance brand crafting aesthetic scent ceramics, will present a selection of hand-made scents and accessories; the coming®’s emphasis on purified materials highlights inventive textures, illustrating the brand’s home object’s tranquil everyday slow-living; LELALES, inspired by contemporary art and the founder’s Traditional Chinese Painting background, the brand has a passion for inclusiveness rooted in design objects; SoftServe’s whimsical homeware objects builds upon the founder’s love of photographing food still lifes when she was studying in NYC; 1ER’s, established in 2022, envisions a constant search of better ways to love pets through pet lifestyle accessories and donating 10% of their yearly profits into animal rescue organizations; herherlin, drawing from oriental aesthetics, creates a multi-sensory world with accessories that go beyond the realm of the visual through incorporating auditory elements; Tagi. brings the imagination of life into concrete form, extending artistic elements into different series like “Tagi. Bear,” “Callme Hotdog,” “Signal.” This is the first time that “Apple Force” arrives in New York, allowing limitless thinking to happen anytime and anywhere; and finally, through its experimental approach on material play and combinations, THEYKNOW is creates multi-functional designs that push the boundaries of how jewelry can be presented and worn. The brands will be presented at StillShop Collection’s booth, meticulously designed by the StillShop team in collaboration with independent NYC based furniture designers Maggie Pei, Yining Ge and Isabel Yang.
After the StillShop Market, the collection will be available for purchase online and StillShop will be hosting in-person community events with NYC partners.
